Did you know that November is National Alzheimer’s Awareness Month? Each year in November, families, communities and healthcare providers are walking for a cure through the advancement of research.

The Delaware Valley Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association is one of over 70 Alzheimer’s Association chapters serving communities across the United States in order to enhance care and support, advance research and advocate.

The National Institute on Aging, one of the National Institutes of Health, defines Alzheimer’s asan irreversible, progressive brain disorder that slowly destroys memory and thinking skills and, eventually, the ability to carry out the simplest tasks. In most people with Alzheimer’s, symptoms first appear in their mid-60s. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia among older adults”.

The Alzheimer’s Association website has many resources on early detection and general management tools, including a checklist of the 10 Warning Signs of Dementia.

With nearly 5 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease, the importance of accessing resources and recognizing the changes can get yourself or your loved ones help sooner rather than later.

Looking to support the cause? Join walkers this Saturday, November 12, 2016 at the Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, PA. Registration begins at 9:00 A.M. with the walk starting at 11:00 A.M. Over 7,000 people are already registered for this year’s walk, raising over one million dollars to support the research and education surrounding this disease.

For many who are not able to attend the actual walk, they choose show their support through monetary donations. Click here to donate
