Pennsylvanians are now able to apply for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) for 2021-2022. LIHEAP is a federally funded program that assists income-eligible renters and homeowners with heating and cooling energy costs, bill payment assistance, energy crisis assistance, weatherization and energy-related home repairs.

LIHEAP grants range from $500 to $1,500 based on household size, income, and fuel type. This is an increase over past years due to additional funding from the federal American Rescue Plan. Funds are distributed directly to a household’s utility company or home heating fuel provider. The grants do not need to be repaid.

Recipients much meet income eligibility requirements in order to qualify. An individual living alone must have an annual income of less than $19,320 to be eligible for the program ($26,130 for a two-person household).
