Hope everyone had a lovely Pride Month! June is a month that marks the history of our community – the resistance, the triumphs, and the culture that comes with making the world a better place for the LGBTQ+ community. Pride itself started as a riot, so we should continue to raise our voices and be heard about our needs! Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center, in partnership with the Research and Evaluation Group at PHMC, have launched the Pennsylvania LGBTQ+ Health Needs Assessment where they want to know more about the health care experiences and wellbeing of Pennsylvania’s LGBTQ+ population. The assessment will then be compiled into a formal report and officially published, where recommendations are made to bring attention to community needs. Your responses to this assessment are completely anonymous and no identifiable information (ie: name, phone number, address, etc.) is requested in order to participate. After completing it myself, it takes about 20 minutes to complete and comprehensively asks about your individual physical and mental health needs, as well as the social determinants (ie: secure housing, adequate healthcare, etc.) that impact the two. All responses are kept completely confidential and you can stop the survey at any time. You can also skip any question, except for the three that determine your eligibility to participate (whether you live in Pennsylvania, are older than 13 years old, and are LGBTQ+). Moreover, those who participate in the 2024 assessment not only help LGBTQ+ organizations develop programs that best serve our community, but will also have the chance to be entered into a raffle for a $50 gift card! Although June is almost at a close, there is never an end to fighting for our community and the Pennsylvania LGBTQ+ Health Needs Assessment will be collecting data all until the end of August!
