The Doctor Is In: The Health Effects of Loneliness
November 13, 2019 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
FreeEvent Location: Dorrance Hamilton Building-Room 210, 1001 Locust St.
Experiencing periods of loneliness is a normal part of life. But prolonged loneliness or isolation can take a toll on a person’s physical and mental health. Research suggests that loneliness can affect someone’s health as much as traditional risk factors such as high blood pressure, smoking, or obesity. LGBT older adults are twice as likely as non-LGBT seniors to live alone, facing an elevated risk of isolation and the health effects that come with it.
Join the LGBT Initiative and Jefferson Health for this month’s “Doctor Is In” program to learn more about the relationship between loneliness, isolation, and physical and mental health. We will learn about the health issues that may be affected by loneliness. We will also discuss strategies for addressing loneliness and isolation as ways to improve health outcomes.
-This program is free and open to the public
-Snacks and beverages will be served
-SEPTA reimbursement will be provided to cover travel costs
Support for this program is provided by Jefferson Health.
