It is common for older adults to experience changes in the quality and duration of our sleep as we grow older. While we may have a harder time getting the sleep we need, this doesn’t mean we need less than we used to. However, older adults are more likely to experience chronic pain, nighttime urination, insomnia, restless leg syndrome, sleep apnea, and other chronic sleep disorders, all of which can impact our sleep and overall quality of life. We also may experience sleep fatigue, feeling tired and drowsy no matter how much sleep we get. Sleep fatigue can occur due to side effects of a medication, boredom, mental health issues, or the use of alcohol.

Join the Elder Initiative at William Way and Jefferson Health for this month’s “Doctor Is In” webinar to learn about sleep and fatigue. We will explore common issues that can affect our sleep quality and will share tips for optimizing our sleep schedules and improving our sleep hygiene. We will also discuss ways to manage fatigue and the health issues that may contribute to feeling tired or drowsy.
